In the dales as most of the traditional upland breeds of sheep have horns we identify our sheep with a mark on the horn. Each farmer having his own mark which have often been passed down through the generations. This can be the farmers initials or the initials of the farm. I decided to make the brand tags in this same traditional way in keeping with the whole natural and traditional way each scarf is made.
Each tag is handmade individually.

Firstly the horn is made to an even thickness then cut to size and sanded.

The K+L logo is then burnt into the horn. To do this a metal branding iron had to be made to shape and filed to make the initials.

This is now heated until it is hot enough to burn into the horn and leave those initials.

It is then a matter of polishing to finish them off before sewing them on.
